I’ve Hit a Running Plateau!

I hate running on the treadmill, period. I just don’t get the same out of it compared to when I run outdoors. Since I live in good ol’ Massachusetts the weather is still pretty chilly so I don’t get to run outside. So I’m forced to run on the treadmill because I want to keep my running consistent. My 5K Race is April 19th and I want to be prepared for it.  I’m not worried about my time. Nope, not at all. I’m just worried about making it across the finish line. I want to increase my stamina so I don’t feel like I have to stop at anytime and run the whole way through.

Yesterday I ran 2 miles, but I had to stop and walk for .25 miles before I could run another mile. Today I ran/walk 2.25 miles. I remember there were a couple times when I ran 2 mile straight no stopping. Oh and the time when I ran 2.5 OUTSIDE. It was a weekend when it was really nice here so I took advantage of it. I’m still trying to build myself up to 3.1 miles (5K), but it’s becoming more & more challenging to get there for some reason.

I don’t know what it is, but my new-found passion for running isn’t there like it used to be. Could be because I’m getting bored with the treadmill or with my music playlists. They need to be updated because I only have 3. If anyone has any suggestions of what songs I should add onto my iPod, please let me know!

I’m lacking something, but I want that FIRE back!!!

I also did an hour of spinning today so I’m very happy about that! I really love that class.

Is there an indoor track at a local university or YMCA you could go run at? I know treadmill running just isnt the same and although I did my 5k on the mill this morning Ill be so much more happy to run outside again. (the weather overhere is just plain shitty too right now at -6C, wind and snow!) For songs.. I just got an ipod, only have like 5 songs on there but they sure get me moving.. I have remixes of Britney Spears that I love! Piece of me, Circus and fav. is womanizer because that one has a great running pace beat. You can also try some intervals which will help your stamina.. Hope you get your groove back but I am positive you will, once the weather smartens up!

It seems like you are really close to hitting that 3.1 mile run! Just keep up your training and you’ll do great. Try elipticalling instead of running if you are sick of it. It’s pretty much using the same muscles, but less pounding on your joints. Here’s a little secret that most people forget to tell other’s who ave done any race. All the excitement and people around you will get your adrenaline pumping, and it will carry you to the finish line if you are determined to finish! Good luck with your race. Let us know how it goes.

Wait a sec, three songs? I have a list, I can try and email it to you. Mel also gave me an awesome list.

Stephanie, I hope you get over the rut. I know you can!!!! COME ON CAT!!! You are going to do it!

This guy gives away music he mixes…and it is very motivational. There are ones specifically to train for a 5k and 10k. Maybe they would help you!?

I love angry loud music when I’m running. Feeder have a great album called “The Singles” (I think).. it’s like their greatest hits, and all the songs are loud, and motivating and it’s easy to keep a steady running rhythm to it. I also like listening to Sum41 and Fall Out Boy. Some James Morrison is great too… and Pink’s album… not the latest one, the one before that… cant remember what it’s called.

    What else….

Nope, think that’s all that’s on my gym playlist at the minute! I stick it on shuffle so I’m not listening to the same line up of tunes all the time.

Best of luck with the 5K. Cant wait to hear how you get on!

The treadmill is exceptionally boring. Can you watch TV instead of just listening to music? I can’t stay motivated on a treadmill. It’s just too monotonous. I’d rather shiver and head outside!
